The University of Kerala was established as the Travancore University in 1937. The university had been transformed or built many times in these past period. The Kerala University was inaugurated by Maharajah of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the University. Presently, the University has 16 faculties and 41 departments of teaching and research in addition to study centres and other departments.
