Kurukshetra University was established on 11 January 1956 in Kurukshetra in Haryana. The Kurukshetra University was the dream of, Sir Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh, a Sanskrit scholar and Punjab governor who actually wanted to establish an institute to promote Indian culture and traditions as well. The Sanskrit department was the first and the only department in the university when it was inaugurated by India’s first president, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and its campus is spread over 400 acres.
