{"id":11603,"date":"2017-12-02T18:07:01","date_gmt":"2017-12-02T12:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.indiaresults.com\/news\/?p=11603"},"modified":"2022-06-24T16:15:12","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T10:45:12","slug":"ugc-latest-news-on-deemed-universities-123-institutions-to-remove-universities-from-their-name-or-lose-deemed-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.indiaresults.com\/news\/ugc-latest-news-on-deemed-universities-123-institutions-to-remove-universities-from-their-name-or-lose-deemed-status\/","title":{"rendered":"UGC Pulled 123 Institutions to Remove \u201cUNIVERSITIES\u201d from their Name or lose \u201cDEEMED\u201d status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ugc latest news on deemed universities<\/strong> &#8211; University Grants Commission (UGC) had pulled up 123 deemed to be universities and said that they cannot include the word \u201cuniversity\u201d as per section 23 of UGC Act.<\/p>\n<p>UGC had also warned that these institutions can lose their \u201cdeemed to be university\u201d tag if they failed to make the switch.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>UGC wrote to 123 institutes twice to First 7 institutions \u2013 On 10 &amp; 13 November &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>UGC pulled 123 Institutions such as BIT-Mesra in Ranchi, Christ University, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai (NMIMS), Symbiosis International University in Pune, BITS-Pilani, Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Uttar Pradesh Izzatnagar, Graphic Era University in Dehradun &amp; Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, \u00a0to comply with the Supreme Court\u2019s order within 15 days. Of which, UGC did get response from 29 institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The 2<sup>nd<\/sup> call was issued to Manipal University &amp; Delhi\u2019s Teri University, KLE University in Belagavi &amp; 19 other institutes. They have been asked to drop the word \u201cuniversity\u201d and change the name in order to comply with rules of UGC.<\/p>\n<p>Manipal University Registrar Dr Narayana Sabhahit said, \u201cAfter the November 10 UGC circular, Manipal University decided to change the name to Manipal Academy of Higher Education\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further added \u201cThe process of changing the name will be completed before the prescribed deadline\u2026 We will be communicating the decision to UGC shortly,\u201d he said. \u201cI would also like to highlight this is just a change of name and our status as deemed to be university remains unchanged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These institutes can\u2019t be coined as term \u201cuniversities\u201d because their expertise is not multidisciplinary but the deemed tag brings academic status and privileges of a university<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ugc latest news on deemed universities &#8211; University Grants Commission (UGC) had pulled up 123 deemed to be universities and said that they cannot include the word \u201cuniversity\u201d as per section 23 of UGC Act.
